Contracts

Hey guys,

Thought I would ask here since a ton of these are not really known by the public. At 44 years of age I have gone back to school to pursue something that I have always wanted to do...computer diagnosis/repair/administration. My instructor thought that I have gotten enough skill that I can start doing some contract work on the side for extra money and also for the experience. He gave me some websites that I can create a profile on and start bidding on jobs that will suit my current level of skill (not a ton yet).

1. Fieldnation
2. Workmarket
3. Onforce

I was wondering if anyone here might happen to know any other reputable contract sites that I could look into as well. It seems that google does not really know wtf I'm talking about when I am searching.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Basher

Good luck on the new venture! I can't think of any offhand other than maybe Craigslist, but I'll bet that your most lucrative path is going to be knocking on small/medium business doors/cold calling. Tons and tons of legwork and rejection that way, but you'll make a lot of contacts and will learn some crazy sales skills. It's a bit of a long term thing too since people might not need your services today, but everyone's computer or network breaks eventually lol. On top of that, once you get a customer, they'll be yours alone with no middleman taking a cut or trying to manage the relationship. Once you've done good work for someone and built trust, sign them up for a monthly service contract. Just some brainstorming, for whatever it's worth :)

Know anything linux-y btw?

It varies from place to place, but in my neighborhood the Next Door app is full of people looking for similar contracts... maybe worth a shot.

Cool. A thank you for both of you. They are keeping me busy in class. Had 2 computers brought in this week from customers for repairs that I got to work on. Been fun so far.
