Wizards ... underpowered?

Hi,
I know this is not an easy Topic...

But I think Wizards are underpowered on this Server.
I am already wondering if I should use more Melee on them but we all know Wizards without Mana is not a good thing...
Wizards don't have a pet and get rid of mana quickly... even with 300 AA.
I know that underpowered, overpowered, ... is a tough discussion. But maybe for Wizards it is worth to open that discussion

I love to Play Wizards...

It is just an idea but what about giving Wizards a higher mana regen than the other classes. Just that they can nuke in a long fight till the end?

What do you all think?

All the casters when it comes to DPS are underpowered once melee are geared and AA'd. I'm not sure how much you would have to increase Mana Regen but it would be quite substantial. I do agree that wizards have it worse than necros and mages but even those classes can't keep up. At higher levels the pets are pretty underwhelming and the casters still run out of Mana. Possibly Control could look at removing the Flowing Thought Cap of 15 but that would effect everyone including priest classes. Unfortunately, that would just make melees more sustainable since a cleric would never go oom.

I wasnt impressed with casters at all, but then again, in this era of the game, casters were rather weak, it was in future expansions that caster got some buffs to help make them more viable. I have parsed and calculated this so many times to see if caster in the long run, might be better,. the results are not great, my melee classes will always do more dps in the long run, if the mobs had less health, then the casters would be great. Vulak, my shaman will put Dots and damage spells on him and do only 30k, while my melee will make up the rest of his hp which adds up to be about 500k

It's worth a think at least. I've always though the design dichotomy between melee and casters was a bit of an odd choice. It would be one thing if there were enough of a variety of fights that burst damage capacity was essential as long-term, sustained damage, but things were never really that way in eq, at least in raids. However, even with that being true, back in the day, my wizzy on live fared pretty well on the dps charts.

If any of you have raid parses, I'd be happy to take a look at them. Also, how much FT do your wizzies have (or would they reasonably have) if there were no cap? (I mean, I can go and put together a best in slot list, but once you can get full bis, more regen isn't helping you kill anything you couldn't kill before.)

i played a war/clr/shm/monk/ranger/mage those toons are 65 with 100-200 aa so they have been played alot even half of the pop stuff tier 1-2 stuff mostly

now im playing a Pal/Dru/cha/shm/wiz/rog all 65 now getting over 100aa's


i cant honestly say i noticed alot of difference

Yes the melee will most likely out dps especially over a long ass fight and while most of the more critical fights are gonna be long ones i havent had any problems on this server keeping my casters mana up i think people just have to remember to try and utilize all the things they can from every class

with my pally group i might lack a bit in dps and healing but...... the amount of debuffs i can stack on raid mobs is ridiculous like 5-6 the mobs barely hit and if they do its for half their max almost all the time or less , i cant imagine what kind of dps i could get if i could play that chanter like a single person would , with a charmed beefed out pet ... and believe it or not having a dru to port in a pinch or evac or root running mobs has saved me alot of CR time and while my shm can keep with heals most the time i got an ae'r and nuker to use if i need i like this combo alot

Wiz all ready have a bout a 5% chance of critting more then any other caster with same aa's i like my wiz just fine i dont feel like he needs anything
he might not out dps a mage with the pet going but i also never have to worry about a rogue pet bringing me trains i have options like roots snares ports evacs and concussion

There will ALWAYS be a best group to play no doubt but i would rather see the Gm's work on custom content or fixing bugs like in ldon or somethin then to see them change classes i think they work just fine thats just my 2 cents
