Few questions

Thanks for all the work on this server. Just a few questions before I jump in:

1. On scaling - how many chars would it take to handle Vox/Naggy/Inny/CT? Could I handle with 2-3 "boxes" or would I need a full group?

2. How do most people two-box or three box-anyway? Do you need separate computers?

3. Is the content of the original raid zones (PoF, PoH, etc.) the same as it was originally?

4. How often do fabled versions spawn?

If you can't tell from the above, I want to relive the glory dates of Kunark-era EQ!

On the issue of other pre-nerf item ideas, just food for thought: moss-covered twig, rubicite BP, box of abu-kar, fanged skull stilleto, A great list of pre-nerf items: https://www.scribd.com/document/1480343 ... ide#scribd

Cheers!

And because I am going to make a monk - a few more specific "shout-outs" to sash of infinite blows and robe of living fungus. Thanks again for your hard work!

Also - if I do two box, what is the best class to team with a monk on the server? My guess would be shammy or enchanter?

You can probably solo Vox and Naggy, but I haven't tried Inny or CT.

I assume most people multibox the same way I do, with one computer running multiple instances of the game simultaneously. Using the non-cheaty MQ2 plugins and EQBC Server to broadcast commands to your toons is how to do it. MQ2 is a little intimidating if you have no experience with it, but I went from no knowledge to basic macro usage relatively quickly.

Most of the original raid zones that have been updated are still updated here. PoF is still the same, but with updated CT loot. I'm pretty sure PoH is 2.0, although once again I haven't been in there. Veeshan's Peak is the most notable change, as its update is in game, and is a source of some of the better gear on the server. The only keys you need are for Vex Thal, PoP progression, and possibly Sleeper's.

I don't know the Fabled spawn rate, but I see them often enough.

Pretty much all of those old items are in game, and non-nerfed versions where applicable.

Definitely pair your monk with a shaman, they are great.

Thanks for the tips! When you say solo- do you mean one room or four box? Thanks!

Great answers Kopek!

To add a bit, fableds are generally 5ish% spawn chance.
With a good group of 2-3 toons, Naggy/vox are doable at lv50ish, trak/vs in the mid-high 50's, and can take some smaller velious/luclin bosses at 60ish. The difficulty will depend a lot on your group make-up, gear, and multiboxing skill of course. Slows and heals make things MUCH easier of course.

Thanks for the tips!

I am going to try to get everything installed next week and give it a shot.

Any recommendations on good two/three box combos (I think 4 would take too much skill)? My first guess was monk (for pulling), shammy, and then something easy with few clicks - either warrior (to taunt off the monk) or something that I can set and forget (rogue, ranger, warrior, paladin).

So I loaded it up last night and I think I have the multi-boxing thing figured out! I am actually going to try to use 3-4 boxes over 2 computers. I am def going to use a monk and a shammy, any recommendations for the other two chars? My thought was to go with easy macro/few click chars so I can focus on the monk/shammy. My thoughts were cleric and war (cleric for extra heals and war as it seems like the easiest class to multi-box with a macro). The only thing "left out" would be an int class. Enchanter seems hardest to macro, wiz seems easiest (stand cast pause cast sit) but I imagine mage or necro wouldn't be too hard (as even if I forget to cast with them, they will always be sending their pet). Any recommendations would be most welcome.

And feel free to say hi in game to my monk main - Komodo.

Thanks!

War / monk / shm / cle is the gold standard 4 box, and is also what I use. If we had an additional spot I would totally add a bard.

You don't need int casters for anything specific, so that doesn't hold you back.

Thanks Kopek for the advice!

If I am going to have two machines running, I was planning on having the two screens be the monk and the shammy and essentially use the cleric just to heal and the warrior to taunt. Is that the right set up?

What I tend to do for progression is to basically "drive" with one box, usually the healer, and essentially treat the others as pets. It's a bit lazy, but if you're trying to level up, the best way is typically killing lots of low blues, so the lazy was is pretty fast. When you're doing stuff on the edge of your group's ability and you need to monk to pull and everyone to do their jobs well, that won't cut it of course, but it's a pretty easy way to ease yourself into boxing.

Control,

I want to again thank you for this project. I convinced a buddy of mine to give it a shot and we are having an absolute blast!

I am,not sure if I should post on the emu website about this or if here is a better spot, but if I were using the same client as you, is there any way to turn spell effects on (I have it set to pre-luclin models if that makes a difference) and to have the old school "scroll" background for items (if I inspect something now, it has like a laundry list of stats and whatnot instead of the old "Wisdom +2, Intelligence +2" format of the original eq)?

Thanks again and I apologize for the flurry of questions.

I haven't had this much playing a video game in years! For anyone on the server, I will be two/three boxing as Phobius, Grokx, and Komodo.

Glad glad you're having a good time! :D
Are you using the spell file from the info page? ( spells.zip ) That should fix your spell effects assuming that you have them enabled in the UI. Just drag it into your install directory and overwrite the one that's there.
For the scroll ui, I don't think there's a quick fix, but it is possible to mod eq's UI. You might search for custom/classic UI mods. There used to be a bunch, not sure if any of the sites are still alive though :(
