Bugs and Problems

I'll keep a running log of bugs and problems in this thread.

If you'd like to report a bug (not a change), just post here. Things will be prioritized based on impact versus the implementation time and risk.

When making a bug report, please add add all the relevant details so that I can quickly reproduce the bug. Every bug will be different of course, but for example, If a mob isn't spawning, the mob name, the zone, and any placeholders if you know them, would be helpful. if it's a quest, all of this might be relevant: the quest name, the mob name, the zone, the step you're on, what the npc cons to you, your class/level.

Really enjoying the server, thanks Control.

One thing is it seems like I cannot move spells to the page 61 and afterwards.

Not a big problem, but if you can have a look into that will be really appreciated.

Thanks!

That's strange, I'll take a look though that might be something that's capped in the client for some reason.

The Cabilis based Monk Shackle quests have two noteworthy breaks, so far: Dust and Bronze

Obtaining the first shackle (Dust) is usually conferred on Iksar Monks by handing in their Guild Note to Grandmaster Glox in East Cabilis, but this item does not appear in inventory for level 1 Iksar Monks upon character creation; now this is not such a big deal, as there is already a quest ingame and working to obtain the first shackle (the "penance quest" which Humans and Drakkin must do instead).

If you really wanted to fix this, I would do further research, but I think this can be safely ignored for now; especially if you consider my suggested "shoestring fix" for the Bronze shackle-

...

The Shackle of Bronze quest breaks down in Timorous Deep at "an iksar master" who does not respond to any variation of:

You say, 'I will assist old Rinmark in completing his rock garden.'

I have tried every combination of these words and others, even some common misspellings- to no avail; the box is not conferred, but I suspect that all of the items are indeed forage-able by Iksars and then Humans and Drakkin with the requisite AA's in foraging (anyone confirm or correct would be "win" here).

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=748
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=3941
http://mqemulator.net/npc.php?id=96002

NOTE- there are two versions of this NPC, and if properly scripted, this is because of the subquest "Trial of Patience" or something for a later or last shackle (going on memory alone here, and it's late) where a much higher level badass version of Rinmark is spawned- and then players must wait like one or two full minutes for him to despawn and then the correct lower-level version of him repop in order to be beatable which will give the correct quest credit or flag or whatever.
#an_iksar_master

and

#an_iksar_Master

One possible short-term fix might be to check the scripts with this NPC (96002) and have him hand Monk characters (class_id# 7?) of sufficient level (20+ anyway?) the already completed Lore item "Pebble Filled Box" to hand right back to him, as it would save Monks actually working on these quests immeasurable hours and hours of time sink foraging, bad luck, and travel, which would bring these quests more into line with actual "RVR" and worth of this reward. It's a hacky fix, sure, but it would fix this for all Monk players of all races, semi-permanently.

This crazy leet bracer is AC 6, wt 0.2, and it's amazing stats are +5 sv Magic

Lastly, I have done this on TWO Monk characters on live, ages ago, and this was one of the worst experiences of my entire gaming life; even when I had time, the Shackle of Bronze quest was the absolute worst time sink and frustrating thing I ever completed in EQ. My Human Monk completing this whole POS questline at level 52 was the last thing I did before retiring from EQ; he was my first character in late 1999, but when Kunark came out early the next year (2000) I enjoyed playing the Iksar Monk more than the "night-blind sssoft ssssskin" and even tho he had crap charisma and slightly less DPS at lower levels, the Iksar really lived through alot more "close battles" than the Human. It was so unconventional, but my friends all played "good races" so I'd spend all of my "free" time getting un-KoS in all sorts of places on the Iksar, and by the time had had enough I even had a Human Paladin un-KoS to half of Cabilis, and the Human Monk was maxxed there (ally to most, only amiable to Brood of Ko`Tiz tho).

Did you give him the Tin Box from Master Niska first? I just tried this and it worked as described for me:

Code: Select all

-------------------
"Master Niska grabs a tin box resting by her feet. 'Take this to Master Rinmark and be quick about it!!'

You receive A Tin Box (identifies as "property of Rinmark"). Take it to "an Iksar master" in Timorous Deep (/loc?).

an Iksar master opens the box to reveal a variety of pebbles. 'How grand!! My pebbles!! Now I can continue with my rock garden!! Hmmm. You look familiar. Hey!! I bet you can help me complete my garden!! Would you please [assist old Rinmark in completing his rock garden]?'
Your faction standing with Swift Tails got better.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got better.
You gain experience!!

You say, 'I will assist old Rinmark in completing his rock garden.'

an Iksar master pours the pebbles into his pocket and hands the box to you. 'Take my box. Fill and combine within my box the following; a radiant meteorite, frontier fool's gold, petrified redwood, Rile's sand coin, sulfur stone, fragment of tektite, plains pebble, jade magma, heart of ice and an unholy coldstone. Return the full tin box to me and I shall reward you with a shackle of bronze.'
-----------------

Not sure how long it should really take to forage all of the things, but I checked the drops to see if there was anything strange. The forage items are all 100% drops (though some share a loot table with other things) and require 0 skill, but I guess you still have to successfully forage to get one. I've never really played a forager, or a monk for that matter.

Spent hours and hours on this, cannot seem to forage the Gold Nugget from Frontier Mountains; either of them. The only non-edible that my Monk's "racial" skill of 50 picked up was a lichen.

...

On another note, I spent at least 6 hours and maybe upwards of 8 now camping the goblin bodyguard; in all that time between yesterday and now, only saw it spawn once, and he dropped the post-nerf CoS "Circlet of ShadowS"- I asked in OOC about this and at least one player said it drops in Droga now off something else... not sure why that would be; cruel joke? hoax?

I realize they are tradeable, but Lore, however I'm not sure why anyone would want them that hard to obtain?

Have also heard of them being available via the Gold Ticket turn ins; between all of my toons, I'd like to be able to obtain 2 (for my SK and my NEC) to help them level up and quest/faction.

Keeping these exclusive, high-end, or "unobtainable" items defeats the purpose of owning one in the first place, no?

Thanks

There wasn't a goblin bodyguard in the db for droga, so I put it on the maddened burynai in the same room where the bodyguard used to spawn.

I'll check into some other solution for the foraged items, maybe adding them as a zone drop or something.

Ranger spell line of force of nature seems not working..

I have casted it on myself/other target and it does shows spell effect, but noting appears on buff window.

Will be really appreciated if you can have a look into this control.

Thank you!

I tested it and didn't see any problems. However, it doesn't stack with a bunch of attack and regen boosting spells like wolf form and choloplast. Maybe something was blocking it?

Ok, acknowledged on the CoS thing. We'll live with your fix, since they are still droppable.

The Gold Nugget [Frontier Fool's Gold] remains the only item that my Monk has been unable to obtain for the Shackle of Bronze. I remember the old days, when "where you were" in a zone was rumored to matter when foraging; as it was "alleged" that depending on your /loc (or quadrant, or area), there were supposedly either "dead spots" where players foraged nothing all the time, or foraged items from differing tables. It was a long time before Verant acknowledged that they had tried to have that feature, but that foraging tables were all in fact zone wide, just with abysmally crappy pick up odds. At some point, Abashi actually "lied" to players in the patch notes, spinning it as a "feature" and that (Professor Farnsworth voice) "Good News, everyone...." "Now all items that can be foraged in a zone can be foraged at any location within that zone."

I'm pretty sure that the emu has always handled foraging (and foraging tables) that way. Can you confirm? Ok if not, I might be able to find my answer in the archives, forums, or source code at Rogean's site.

Many thanks again, Control, for all your winning efforts to give players a fun and challenging server.

=)

From the db editor, it looks like there's just a pool that the entire zone pulls from for foraging. The droprates and the skill requirements are changable, but I checked all of these, and they're all at 100% and 0 skill. Obviously, that droprate only counts once you actually successfully forage, but I'm not sure how that works internally.

Also, just added both gold nuggets to the loot tables of the miners and digmasters in frontier mountains. Assuming that the zone isn't active, the change should take effect the next time someone zones in.

Not technically a bug, but none of these have dropped in well over two dozen kills; this is at least "bad luck" and bad design. Is there a quick or easy way to increase the drop rates two or three fold? Even at 3x that would leave the NPC dropping nothing about 1:4 times, instead of 3:4 (or in my experience in 4-5 clears of the entire zone of Dalnir tonight, 4:4 Nothing; 0:5). If this should be in Suggestions, feel free to move it. I'm not seeing alot of complaints but then I'm not seeing alot of Monks questing on the way up either. Cheers! Thanks again. =)

Monk "Whistling Fists" quest line breaks down in Timorous Deep, as always, with "an_Iksar_master"- who is supposedly "Master Rinmark" from the earlier shackle quests. Please check scripts folder, he or his doppleganger (an_iksar_Master; capital 'M') is supposed to respond to "I am ready for the Trial of Patience"

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/ques ... quest=1608

I wonder if it would be appropriate to ask for a bump in the quality of the final reward for this quest also, since, by the time players would be able to obtain this, even junk drops from certain Luclin zones outclass this crazy time consuming convoluted questline and rep grind. It maybe should at least be a viable alternative to Sleeper's and NToV drops; maybe 13/20 or 15/20? Maybe even a little more; but not over-unity.

Thanks for reading

PS EDIT: Allow me to question the wisdom of this quest's idiotic designer too (Robe of the Whistling Fists, needed by all Monks pursuing their epic and so on): you will note upon success that it LOWERS Swift Tail reputation by FIFTY points unmodified... at 10x that would be FIVE HUNDRED REP lower, with a faction that is obscenely difficult to raise to for non Iksar Monks. If anything, it should RAISE it, so I am dumbfounded that change was ever implemented in the first place; there is no mechanical or even role-playing or "game lore" reason for it.

Oh, dear me, if i had the tools I'd spend as much time fixing these errors as playing... that and "one way" lowerable (but not raisable) reputations/factions...

I can look at the other things later, but this part should be fixed. The script apparently wanted you to use "test of patience" but now either should work.
