Hi Control,

Firstly, thanks for a great nostalgic trip, great server and bringing loads of fun back for me.

The reason for the post is as the title states, while in these zones my 4 box team becomes unresponsive, usually after two random kills, but can be normal for 45 minutes or so. I am not sure if it is unique to these zones but have not experienced anywhere else. Initially thought it was my connection, but rebooted all my internet, reset EQBC, MQ2 and reloaded game. On entry into game, all is normal for a few minutes then the problem re occurs.

My son, joined me in PoM last night and his set up did excactly the same, plus he lives in a different location. He also mentioned HS as a problem he has too.

I am using RoF2 and it is a complete copy of your directory.

Was in HS tonight for about 40 min. Ran smooth with no lag for about 35 min - then it lagged so bad I had to shut down the EQ session through task manager to get out of the lagg. I had my other tons in a different zone at the same time with no lag issues. When I logged back in the account, the zone was fine.

I cleaned up the server processes a bit and ran around HS for a few minutes with no problems, so hopefully that fixes it? If you still have the issue, try turning on your log and checking the last things that happened before the crash.

I didn't check, but it would have likely been the same problem. If it still happens, the server probably just needs a reset.

Well went in today, same issue , killed the 3 entry mobs with no problem, although it was very slow, like slow motion. Headed south steps and engaged and lagged out where I had to use the /quit command to get all characters back. Everytime you see the welcome message is everytime I quit and had to restart. I have tried with single character, does the same thing.

Hmm, I popped in and tried again and didn't seem to have any problems. Have you got an updated spellfile recently? vogeq.com/spells.zip
May not make a difference, but just stabbing at things. Maybe try to redownload and overwrite all the files associated with the offending zones?

I've also experienced the problems in Howling Stones - as a bit of further information I've been to the basement of the zone without any problems. Additionally Jim means Plane of Growth, not Mischief. I'll replace the zone files next chance I get and report back!

Also thanks for the server, its been a great ride!

ETA: Unlike Jim the client I use is the one I downloaded for the version of Nagafen's Lair which has been fine for every zone I've visited (most of classioc and Kunark) other than these two.

One last thing, I did a quick search through the eqemu forums for similar issues and it seems this thread might have useful information http://www.eqemulator.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40620&highlight=howling+stones . I'm unable to play tonight to test it but if Jim or anyone else wants to try perhaps zoning in from OT or getting a HS would be worthwhile tests.

Ok I have downloaded and transferred the spell files across, no change, 5 minutes in and total lag, takes almost 10 minutes to see the mob drop. I then /quit and exited EQ and changed every charasis file with fresh copies, from my P99 folders. Ok for 5 minutes then lagged again. I am stumped, Windows 10 maybe, quadcore maybe, not sure.

I read through the thread though I didn't really notice anything actionable, just confirmation that there can be screwy things with certain accounts. If you're having problems, could you try on a different character to see if the problem might be per account instead of your computer/files? I did run into something similar before where someone couldn't enter a zone with one account, but his others were fine.

Done some experimental stuff, by using Titanium setup rather than your RoF2 directory, same result. It does the same with one character or my 4 box, with MQ2 and no MQ2. I have also done it all on my laptop, Windows 10, with same results.

I have started the Shadow knight epic, and went to Qeynos city and catacombs to find this has the same issues as HS and PoG, it is so bad beside Teydar I can not interact with any npc! They roam about as normal but SK cannot interact, camp, cast spells or trade, so the epic is at a halt.

If you can get into Feardem inventory, items are there if you could do the trade for me.

More updates!

Changed the UI to default just to see, same result, other character there Stinger and also lagged out too. Strangely I can interact with the banker but no other NPC. The only way to leave is to die as cannot gate or use door.

Sorry I haven't been able to do more to fix the lag issues. I can't seem to replicate it on my end. For anyone who's being held up on their epic, send me a PM with your character name, the npcs and item names that are blocking you, and when you usually play, and I'll try to get your quest sorted out for you even if I can't fix the zone.

I'll also give the server a restart just in case that helps.

The help is much appreciated. The server restart didn't help in HS unfortunately but thank you for trying! A new thing that happened is that I ran my War into the lagged out zone for a run around (south wing) after a bit all four of my clients crashed and upon logging in my war had been booted to his bind point. Its bizarre how it seems a bit selective but nevermind - the vast majority of zones are in great shape!

I was trawling about MQ2 forums and came across this http://www.macroquest2.com/phpBB3/viewt ... 35&t=19929. I tried this without success, even changed the priority manually, but HS remains the same. Of little help, but I have little understanding of scripting, so maybe there is something in there on that topic that is related to windows 10 rather than the game that causes the lag. Still leaves the question of why in just some zones and not in others.

Going to change my display drivers to see if that makes a difference.

If it's Win10 related, that might explain why I can't reproduce it since I don't have anything running it. However, no idea if it's related, but that post reminded me that seen mentioning before that EQ doesn't multi-core very well and that making it only use one core can fix some problems. In Win7, you can tell a process to use a particular processor by right clicking on it in the task manager and clicking Set Affinity. You could give that a try as well.

Tried your suggestion with the affinity, still doing the same thing, I can clear the entry mobs with no issue, but as soon as I engage anything past there in the south wing, the very first one in fact, i lag.

Checked task manager and affinity for EQBC was showing using the full cores, but each eqgame.exe instance was usining only one core, so must default to that. I did try EQBC on single core but the results were as above. Macroquest does not show in task manager so would not think that is a issue?

The mystery continues.................

I really wouldn't think so, but it would be easy enough to test by trying it without MQ loaded.

Also, you could try running in various compatibility modes and as administrator if you haven't (not that I really expect that to work, just brainstorming).

There may just be something in the zone files for a few zones that just works differently and throws fits with certain systems. Not that it's specifically related here, but in one of the custom asset threads, someone mentioned the difficulty in the reverse engineering required for making asset exporters. They said (as I fuzzily recall) that there were multiple custom in-house asset techs layered on top of each other as the teams and tech transitioned over time, to the extent that they'd found one asset format that was only used for a particular type of model in only one zone. There's some wonky stuff in the eq client.
