Visions of Grandeur

I'm just checking in to make sure I'm not missing something.

I'm getting close to LvL 65 and I'm finding it more difficult to kill anything but trash and a few low level boss mobs. I read and re-read the posts here thinking I have missed some special buff or spell but haven't seen anything. When I go into areas like VP etc... and see 2 toons clearing the zone of all raid mobs but I get wasted in seconds (WAR with 6k HP and 2k AC), I feel as if I've missed something. For fights were my WAR isn't wasted in seconds, my 2 Clerics run out of mana before I can get anything to 3/4 health.

I've tried a few diff set-ups but cant take down the big mobs.

I've tried running the 1st step in the flag progression but cant get enough DPS to take clear any trial.

Am I missing some special buff?

The charm has a click damage shield which helps on the dps front, but at 65, it's not going to be a gamechanger. There are also haste potions on the pok vendors, and you can use tribute haste if you haven't gotten a solid haste item yet.

However, it sounds like the big thing you're missing is really a slower or people to group with. clr/clr/war sounds like a really strong base that can benefit from dragging pretty much anyone along, but by itself, it's going to kill slow and mobs are going to do a ton of damage.

It's easy to underestimate the massive difference that slow makes. I mean, if you had a 75% slow, the mob would be doing 1/4 the damage. That's just a giant difference! As a stopgap, you could find a slowing weapon like a willsapper or truncheon of doom.

Thnx C. Going to try looking for a good slow weapon and combining the haste potion with what I already have.

Run over to Karnors and grab a swarmcaller, procs Tagars, and lasts a minute or so. Plenty of time to swap out weapons. Easy to get until you find something better.

edit: Oh NVM I thought I saw Ranger, you're a Warrior. Truncheon of Doom for you :)

Is there a decent slowing weapon a Paladin can hunt/quest for?

@phentop I feel your pain. I am also just starting out and thought I'd test the water in VP last night. I engaged Hoshkar and didn't last beyond 3 rounds. At first I was like 'hey where is the pet' then my warrior fell over and I just burst out laughing.

Do people really 2 box VP? If so I am guessing they must have amazing gear and a truckload of AA. Does anyone have any suggestions on gearing up here? I haven't played beyond Kunark in the last decade, so I really don't remember much beyond that. Obviously I'm not killing anything in VP, are there some easier/lesser boss mobs in other xpacs that I should target? (war/mag/clr)

I find it really unlikely anyone is 2-boxing VP. I have an almost fully elemental geared warrior and am certain there is no way I would ever be able to 2 box Xygoz. As for the rest, I haven't tried it because I don't want to take the many hours it would take even if it is possible.

I would say with a war/mag/clr you are always going to find VP rough since you do not have a reliable slow. VP is is a zone where if you have slow it is laughable how easy it is for the most part and the risk to reward ratio is completely out of line. If you don't have slow it a completely different story. I'm not even sure there are any an AE's left on the mobs there except for Hoshkar's insignificant disease cloud and Silverwings annoying knock back.

Try to find a shaman/enchanter/Beastlord who can tag along and VP will be much easier.

Yeah, I really didn't expect to be able to do anything in VP. I just wanted to see how bad I got mowed down.

I went around and tried a few other mobs looking to see what I was capable of. Venril Sathir was totally easy. Zlandicar and Trak weren't too bad. I think that I'll eventually be able to do Vindi, but right now (lvl 62) I was just not quite able to keep up with the heals.

We found Vindi to be tougher than Statue and King Tormax when our group was progressing through that stage. You might give those other 2 a shot. Dozekar is pretty doable at that level too (fully slowable), and his quest items are great all the way into the elementals. Your options will open way up if you include a slower in your lineup.
